Is there any way to lose a gut without running or dieting?

I’ve never been a fan of running or dieting, but I have tried my hand at weight lifting and I seem to like it. Are there are any exercises known to really burn fat around your mid-section? Am I asking the obvious (answer: sit-ups)? Thanks for your help. Answers from professionals appreciated!
